WeBeSailing  BVI Sailing Itinerary

Following is a seven day suggested sailing itinerary, complete with some pictures and commentary, highlighting the most notable places in the British Virgin Islands.  Keep in mind that the below suggested itinerary is exactly that…suggested! The order in which we visit the Islands may differ and is quite often decided by our Mistress of the Sea…MOTHER NATURE, who decides which way she wants to push us!! with her WIND!! : )

The BVI’s have been dubbed, "Nature's Little Secret" as they are simply breathtaking and arguably, the most popular of all Caribbean destinations.

If this is your first Caribbean sailing vacation, you'll want to visit the most popular places

The BVI map below, is a guide outlining our suggested, 7 day sailing itinerary.

BVI Itinerary Day 1

If you have already arranged for your provisions to be onboard (see provisioning link under charter packages section), you should set sail from Tortola or Beef Island within a few hours, the day of your arrival.  Otherwise, provisioning will be done once you arrive and we will take off first thing in the morning or sometimes late evening on your arrival day.

The first stop on your BVI sailing itinerary is an easy reach to The Bight at Norman Island. Stop off at "The Caves" for a leisurely snorkel in our warm Caribbean waters or sail on for lunch in "The Bight".

Norman Island and The Caves, became famous as the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's Caribbean novel, "Treasure Island". See Map of Norman, Peter & Cooper Island.

William Thornton - Norman Island

By the time you reach Norman Island, chances are your crew will be ready for a tasty "WeBeSailing" Cocktail (our secret crew brew!) and a gastronomically diner. You can also drop-in and visit the William Thornton Floating Bar & Restaurant. A sailing landmark in the British Virgin Islands. We should warn you though... the Willy T isn't for everyone... It can get pretty wild at times...

If you'd rather not discover what a body shot (islands style) is, we would suggest something a little lighter!  We will drop the anchor in The Bight or pick up a mooring ball.  Don’t worry if Willy T is not your thing, just sit back onboard and relax taking  in the breath taking view of the surrounding Islands. Either way you will have a great evening and wind down from your flight!

Tomorrow you'll be sailing throughout the  British Virgin Islands!

The Indians

Ah Paradise! The sun is rising, the frigate birds are soaring overhead and hopefully you didn't overdo it at the Willy -T last night. You are ready to start your British Virgin Islands sailing adventure!

The "Indians" provide a great snorkeling and scuba site just a stone's throw away! If you're not up to physical stuff yet, we can proceed to Peter Island and save the Indians for your last day of sailing.

At Peter Island, we will set our anchor at Dead Man's Bay to Enjoy a lovely swim at this world class beach or simply hang out.

Grab your snorkel gear and check out the sea grass beds right below the yacht. With any luck, you will spot a sea turtle or two, lazily snacking on the sea grass.

Salt Island is fun to investigate. There's a natural salt pond located inland and a very tiny settlement of British Virgin Islanders who used to collect sea salt. Unfortunately, the last remaining resident, Norwell Durant, passed away in 2004.

Salt island, BVI is home to the Wreck of the Rhone and is a favorite dive site. The Rhone was a British Royal Mail steamship which foundered during a hurricane in the BVI in 1867. The British Virgin Islands and the Rhone were made famous in 1977 as the location for the movie, "The Deep". This is an interesting wreck and much of the Rhone can still be clearly identified.

For the evening, we will sail to Cooper Island and pick up a mooring ball. After a lovely day of sea, sand and surf, retire to a great meal onboard s/v WeBeSailing as we watch one of many beautiful sunsets to come.

BVI Itinerary Day 3 - Virgin Gorda, The Baths

One of the most awesome sights to behold when sailing the British Virgin Islands are "The Baths" at the southern tip of Virgin Gorda. There are conflicting theories as to how these incredible rock formations came to be. Some say The Baths resulted from a meteor shower, others credit volcanic activity. There appears to be some evidence of lava flows which could have happened centuries after a meteor shower ...!

Its one of those places you won't want to miss!

O.K., so The Baths are just a pile of "really big rocks" on a beach ... but when sailing up to them, you'll understand. They really are simply magnificent!

Snorkeling is great at The Baths too. There are marvelous Elkhorn coral formations and plenty of nooks and crannies to explore.

BVI Itinerary Day 4 - Gorda Sound, Beef Island & Marina Cay

When sailing to Gorda Sound , you will find several restaurants and beach bars to enjoy. If you need supplies, Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour and the Bitter End Yacht Club cater to the boating community, offering provisioning, fuel, water and ice.

We can spend a day in the North Sound, swimming and enjoying the surroundings, (the island is gorgeous), go snorkeling or scuba diving, enjoy an island style lunch on the boat or have a picnic on the beach. In the afternoon, we can set sail for either Trellis Bay, Beef Island or Marina Cay, south east of Great Camanoe and west of Virgin Gorda.

Trellis Bay is a protected harbour and home of "The Last Resort" restaurant and cabaret. The Last Resort is quite unique and enjoyable and the after dinner show is very amusing.  An Island style aperitif is always a good precursor to a great meal on your floating hotel… : )

BVI Itinerary Day 5 - Guana Island, Tortola or Jost Van Dyke

We will set sail for the incomparable Monkey Point at Guana Island where we can enjoy a leisurely day at the beach, pack a picnic lunch and take advantage of some of the best snorkeling in the BVI´s. This is a really fabulous spot and a MUST SEE!

In the afternoon, sailing to Cane Garden Bay, Tortola or White Bay, Jost Van Dyke presents a difficult choice for your party. Given you only have a 7 day vacation planned. If you are planning a meal on land, these are the 2 places to really look at.

Jost Van Dyke offers several places to enjoy fresh seafood and the lobster is incredible ... but then again, Quito's jerk shrimp and seafood pasta dishes are pretty tempting as well! Of course, there is also a choice between Quito Rymer (pronounced Keytoe) and Foxy Callwood of Foxy's Bar & Restaurant in regards to entertainment. Decisions, decisions! Maybe you should let the weather (and swells) make the choice for you. Sailing presents so many quandaries!

BVI Charter Day 6 - Sandy Spit, Green Cay & Soper's Hole

In the morning, we’ll head over to Sandy Cay or Sandy Spit and Green Cay for more great snorkeling and basking in the fabulous BVI sunshine. In the early afternoon we will sail for Soper's Hole, Tortola to spend a night of frolic and fun.

Soper's Hole, BVI

In the morning, we will head back to our original departure point in anticipation for your return flight home.  Depending on your flight time, you will probably have time for a last snorkel, snooze or sail… : )

BVI Itinerary Day 7 - Your Sailing Vacation is almost Over!

Your sailing vacation is coming to an end and its time to head back to reality.

Seven days have flown by and you realize that a week of sailing in the BVI just isn't enough. Start planning next year's sailing itinerary on your flight home and incorporate those places you weren't able to see all still fresh in your mind! Maybe next time, you will go for a 14 day option where we can explore some of the Leeward Islands (St-Maarten/St-Martin, St-Bart's, St-Kitts, etc..)!!

Come sailing in the British Virgin Islands - There's nothing like it anywhere in the Caribbean!
